Fuel Tanker Movement Restrictions Waived By The ERB
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has provided fuel tankers with a week to work without restrictions on the movement of fuel tanks on the road in a bid to increase supply within the country following a fuel shortage.
In a statement made to the press, the ERB Manager of Public Relations Kwali Mfuni said that the waiver will run from the 6th to the 13th April.
The waiver means that between these dates aspects of the Zambian Standard on transportation will be suspended, most notably the restrictions on movement of Road Tank vehicles during the day between 6am and 6pm.
As a result of this statement, Ms. Mfuni has urged stakeholders within the fuel supply chain to facilitate the efficient passage of these tankers on all public roads.
This waiver follows industrial action taken by tanker drivers over the Easter weekend, in which they demanded the actualisation of the 50% volume allocation policy which was yet to be put into action.
As a result of the policy not being actualised, the country experienced critical gasoline shortage, with several filling stations running out of fuel altogether.
