Japan Donates K172 Million To Zambian Farmers

The Japanese government has donated 172 million kwacha to support farmers to develop high-quality rice seeds.

The grant will help increase production and pay for training facilities in Zambia.

The project will be implemented by the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute and will be conducted over the next two years.

Situmbeko Musokotwane, Finance, and National Planning Minister outlined the important role that Japan had played in providing such support to Zambia’s agriculture sector. 

He also outlined the pivotal role the country has played in infrastructure, education, and health.

Further, the minister stated that the project will focus on strengthening the current system for distributing agriculture technology and the capacity of production, with the end goal to have widespread access to high-quality seeds.

Mizuuchi Ryuta, the Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, also outlined his confidence that the project will be a success.

He stated that the funds will aid production in each stage of the farming cycle.

Additionally, Norihito Yonebayashi, Chief Representative of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency, outlined the agency’s commitment to crop diversification in Zambia.
