Inflation Predicted To Reach Single Figures By End of Year

Economist Blessings Kafwanka has confidently predicted that inflation will fall to single figures by the end of the year.

The announcement came during an interview with ZNBC News.

Mr Kafwanka outlined that the goal can be attained through targeted government policy to make the kwacha more attractive.

One of these policies includes government support for the manufacturing sector which could reduce the price of imports and make exports more competitive.

Further, he explained that the Bank of Zambia could also relax its monetary policy due to the fall in inflation. He said that the central bank should lower the interest rates to allow people to benefit from the fall in the price level.

The economist also said that the fall in inflation suggests a stabilising of the Zambian economy. This should help attract private investment to the country, ensuring that the New Dawn government’s investment goals are met.
