Foreign Minister Kakubo Announces Landmark in UK Financial Support

Stanley Kakubo, Foreign Affairs Minister, has revealed that Zambia and the United Kingdom have reached the milestone sum of £1 billion in bilateral financial agreements, an indicator of the excellent health of the two nations’ diplomatic ties.

One of the first projects signed with the UK under the UPND regime was the Green Growth Compact, in November 2021. Mr. Kakubo announced that initiatives signed under the Compact so far amount to £1 billion of UK investments in Zambia.

Mr. Kakubo is presently attending the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Summit in London. The primary theme of the summit is developing resilience in order to sustain peaceful and just society. The meeting will also highlight opportunities for environmental sustainability agreements, intra-commonwealth trade, and digital connectivity to help resolve crises.

He told the press that on Monday discussions were held concerning the resolution of Zambia’s debt with his UK Counterpart, James Cleverly. Minister Kakubo also met King Charles III at the Commonwealth Day reception on Monday, where the pair discussed Great Britain and Zambia’s historic friendship.
