Mpezeni Praises Government’s Early Farming Inputs Supply
Paramount Chief Mpezeni has said that the early supply of farming inputs ahead of the 2023/24 farming season has reminded him and the people of Eastern Province of the years of prosperity under Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s agricultural policies.
Mpezeni suggested that the New Dawn government was nurturing the country’s agriculture towards the levels of good health enjoyed under Dr. Kaundau’s UNIP party. He said that the government working so far ahead of schedule gave the Eastern Province even better chances for a strong upcoming farming season.
The Paramount Chief also acknowledged the crucial role the rehabilitated Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia (NCZ) plant has played in providing fertiliser, guaranteeing steady supply and affordable costs for farmers to boost their crops.
These early signs, combined, are enough evidence for Mpezeni to forecast a productive agricultural sector under the government, if such programmes as those being funded currently continue. He also highlighted the fiscal importance of agriculture among rural communities.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni also extended his thanks to the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) for the successful implementation of the village electrification scheme, which he described as a game-changer for communities. He made particular reference to the installation of electricity in Luageni village, where poultry and fish farming have exploded as a result. Mpezeni’s comments came while meeting Dr. Mboza, a consultant for the REA who was assessing the impact of the electrification scheme in Eastern Province.
