IMF Commends New Dawn Government For Economic Recovery
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has commended the Zambian government for its progress in executing its economic recovery strategy.
According to IMF Zambia Resident Representative Preya Sharma, the country is on track with its economic revival agenda, and the medium-term growth prospects have improved to about 5 percent, a significant jump from the 1.5 percent recorded in 2019.
During a virtual public lecture at the University of Zambia, Ms. Sharma emphasised that the government's efforts to restore stability involve rebuilding fiscal resilience and ensuring monetary stability. She stressed the importance of enhanced transparency, accountability, and efficient management of government resources to maintain this trajectory of progress.
Furthermore, Ms. Sharma highlighted Zambia's potential for climate-smart inclusive growth through stimulating private sector-led initiatives. This approach is seen as a critical driver for sustainable and inclusive economic development in the nation.
The public lecture titled "From Economic Stabilisation to Inclusive Growth: Zambia’s Reform Path" was organized by the University of Zambia's Department of Economics, in collaboration with the IMF and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, shedding light on Zambia's reform journey towards economic stabilization and inclusive growth.
