HH Announces Commitment to Increasing Fish Output in Luapula
President Hakainde Hichilema has said that the Government will invest more in the aquaculture sector in Luapula Province to increase the country's fish production.
The President announced this on a one-day working visit to the Chabuka Traditional Ceremony of the Ushi people in Mansa, Luapula.
Before Hichilema officiated the event, he addressed various stakeholders who praised the government’s developments and improvements in rural areas.
Dr Elias Munshya, Zambia’s ambassador to Australia, said, “Milenge, Chembe, and Mansa are very grateful for your wise and visionary leadership. When we meet [constituents] and talk to them, they are looking at the development in the urban areas and rural districts.”
President Hichilema says Luapula Province has the potential to produce enough fish for local consumption as well as export.
Speaking at the stakeholder meeting in Chief Matanda’s area of Mansa District, the President said the government will invest in fish cages in the water bodies of Luapula Province.
“We will invest more in the fish farming around here because we have depleted the natural bodies; this province can feed the whole of Zambia with fish,” the President continued.
Hichilema went on to discuss other developments in the region, highlighting the recent upgrade of Mansa Airport, “Your government has taken a decision to upgrade Mansa Airport to an International Airport - Mansa for the first time since independence will be an international airport so that investors can come to Mansa and drive around the power stations, mining, farming and tourism.”
