Zesco Launches New 7-Hour Power Supply Schedule

Zesco announced yesterday that it has introduced a new power rationing schedule to provide a consistent 7-hour daily power supply.

In a statement issued by the Zesco Corporate Affairs Department, the utility said, “The adjustment aims to enhance service reliability by optimizing power imports and maximizing contributions from Independent Power Producers wherever feasible.”

The company explained that whilst it is fully committed to maintaining this schedule, it is subject to power import availability and unexpected challenges. When this occurs, though, the energy supplier will “share real-time updates via SMS, the Zesco Facebook page, and other communication channels.”

Zesco is also encouraging anyone who experiences issues or outages for longer than 24 hours, to report them immediately as they may indicate a technical issue requiring urgent attention.

The new power rationing schedule announcement comes less than a week after Zesco’s emergency tariff adjustment took effect on Friday, November 1st. The adjustment has allowed Zesco to ramp up electricity imports from South Africa’s Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., EDM of Mozambique, and the Southern African Power Pool, bringing some relief to consumers.

The utility thanked the public for their understanding in “these challenging times” and reaffirmed their commitment to providing the best possible service.
