Ndola begins production of 105MW of power
The energy company Ndola has started its production of 105MW of electricity to help mitigate Zambia’s power deficit.
This measure is amongst a selection of short and long term policies announced by the government in its response to the challenges faced by the electricity shortfall.
Speaking at the official start of the plant production, the minister for energy, Peter Kapala gave further encouragement for investment by the private sector into the energy sector. He said, “Independent power producers, also known as IPPS, are welcome to invest in the energy sector. The government has put up a conducive environment for private sector participation. The time to invest is now.”
Brian Mushimba, the CEO of Ndola revealed that the company will invest in another 200MW at a solar plant which will lower the costs for generation at Ndola, enabling them to supply more power at affordable prices.
The Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo said, “I am appealing to the people of the Copperbelt to continue supporting this President. This drought, we will come out stronger than we were…solar plants are coming, such that in future, even if we don’t have rain, we will still have power.”
