Solwezi Girl, 16, Murdered By Boyfriend

A 16-year-old girl from Solwezi district has died after being savagely beaten by her 23-year-old boyfriend. 

North-Western Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi identified the victim as Annie Kayombo of Kandema area in Solwezi. He explained that she was assaulted with a blunt object by her boyfriend- a taxi driver called Abraham Ngambwe - at around 11pm on December 22 in Kendemba compound.

“Police in Kyawama received a report of assault which occurred on 22 December, 2020 around 23:00 hours in Kandemba compound but reported on 23 December, 2020 at 11:00 hours by Charity Lutonga, 37, who reported on behalf of her daughter Annie Kayombo aged 16 of the same abode who was unable to talk at the time of reporting”, Mr Chushi said.

Miss Kayombo was admitted to Solwezi General Hospital’s intensive care unit after falling unconscious. She later died of her injuries at around 4am on December 26. 

Police Commissioner Chushi said the charges against Mr Ngambwe have been updated from assault to murder following a postmortem examination yesterday. The suspect remains in custody and is awaiting a court appearance.
