Mr Phiri was driving a Toyota Vitz hatchback to Lusaka with four passengers when the accident occurred. He later died from severe burns sustained during the crash.
Known professionally as Daev Zambia, Phiri was famous for his Afropop hits ‘Never Been Easy’ and ‘Mboko Mboko’.
Fans took to social media to voice their grief, with TV presenter Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya writing: “The news that Zambia singer Daev has died is really devastating. Just the thought that someone so young and talented is no more without any illness is just chilling. I mean, how inexplicable is the concept of life?!”
