Zamtel Sues Bowman Over K590,000 Rental Arrears

Zamtel is suing Patriotic Front MP Bowman Lusambo for failure to settle K590, 000 in rent for a house in Ndola.

The telecommunications giant own the property, No. 68 Kabelenga Road, Ndola, and have had a lease agreement with the PF representative for Kabushi since December 2016.

However, the company have released a statement from their human resources department that Lusambo has become a problematic tenant and that they do not wish for him to continue his occupancy. This is in no small part concerning the alleged K590, 000 outstanding rent from Lusambo as of October 31st.

Zamtel HR rep Henry Lungu elaborated on the numbers of the case in this statement, revealing that it was agreed that Lusambo would pay K10, 000 per month, before tax, and that he would be responsible for maintenance of the property.

Lungu adds that this feature of their tenancy agreement has also proved problematic, as former Lusaka Province Minister for the PF Lusambo allegedly spent upwards of K2 million on home improvements, before asking to be reimbursed for these costs.

Zamtel concluded their statement by reaffirming that, “From the time the respondent took occupancy of the house, the respondent has never paid any rent despite all efforts by the applicant to collect rentals from him.”

It is understood that summons have now been filed at Lusaka High Court.
