Woman Accuses Lusambo Of Fathering Her 4 Children

An Ndola woman, Mercy Matonga Cowham, has accused former Lusaka Province minister Bowman Lusambo of fathering her four children, and is happy to take a DNA test to ascertain their paternity.

PF Member of Parliament Lusambo sued Ms. Cowham over her claims in Lusaka High Court and requested a DNA test to be conducted on the four children, as well as claiming damages for libel.

The story first emerged on September 28, when Mercy published a video on Facebook and other forms of social media that detailed her and Lusambo’s relationship. Mercy revealed in the video that the pair has been together for roughly eight years and had three children together, while she was expecting the fourth and has since given birth.

Ms. Cowham has been steadfast in this story since the claim was taken to court by Lusambo.

“The defendant shall aver at trial that the comments made by her are based on her personal knowledge and belief,” Mercy stated. “The defendant will aver at trial that the plaintiff is not entitled to any of the reliefs sought but the defendant is agreeable to a DNA test to be conducted on all four children to confirm that indeed the plaintiff is the father.”

Ms. Cowham also stated that she will show at trial that there was no malice in her statement that Lusambo is the father to the children, adding that the former minister never disputed the paternity of the children in the past and had given her financial support to take care of the children.

“The defendant will aver at trial that the plaintiff and defendant were in an on and off sexual relationship since 2014,” the defence further read.

Mercy added that the relationship with Lusambo only ended earlier this year, and it was only when Lusambo abandoned his children that she felt compelled to take action against him for the maintenance of the children before the Subordinate Court under cause No. 2021/CRMP/MO/228.
