Price Of Beer To Rise By As Much As 50%
On Wednesday evening Zambian Breweries, one of the major producers of the commodity, announced a sharp price hike of their beers.
Zambian Breweries sent out information to all their distributors notifying them of a 30% to 50% increase on all their beer brands.
“Please be informed of a price change on the following SKU’s from tomorrow, 1st April 2021,” the notice read.
The increase will result in the popular Castle Lager 340ml to increase from K215 to K235 per case.
Although the reasoning behind these increased prices is yet to be confirmed, only two weeks ago the company reported dwindling profits in 2020 as a result of increased production costs and poor sales as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The price increase also follows an increase in the Zambia’s already high inflation rate, with the rate increasing from 19.2% in December 2019 to 22.2% in February 2021.
