228,000 AstraZeneca Vaccines To Arrive Tomorrow
Health Minister, Jonas Chanda has announced that Zambia will receive the first consignment of the COVID-19 vaccines, under the COVAX Facility, on Monday 12th April 2021.
Updating the nation on the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme in Parliament, Dr Chanda said the first 228 000 doses of AstraZeneca, from India, will arrive at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on Monday, 12th April, 2021, at 14:35hrs.
Dr. Chanda said the vaccine is only one in the basket approved by Cabinet to cover 20 per cent of the eligible adult population above 18 years old.
Dr Chanda explained that those at greatest risk, will be prioritized as guided by the Prioritization Criteria as outlined in the National Vaccine Deployment Plan.
He pointed out that Health Workers, Security Personnel, Bus Drivers and Marketeers will be among the first to be vaccinated.
He said the vaccine will be administered on a voluntary basis.
