Rural Electrification Authority to connect 2,000 with power
During the next two weeks, 2,000 households in Lumwana East will be connected to power following the completion of the 33-kilovolt extension to the power grid.
The extension was part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 152 councils to connect their districts to electricity using resources from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The grid extension is welcome at a time when Zambia faces an energy crisis from the impact of the drought and means that public institutions such as schools and clinics will benefit from the provision of electricity.
The government has recently urged ZESCO to adhere to the load-shedding schedule, with the energy minister Peter Kapala confirming, “we have instructed ZESCO to ensure they follow the timetable.”
Addressing the issue of load shedding, Vice President Nalumango has encouraged Zambians to retain strength and remain patient throughout the energy crisis, where pain is inevitable during the tackling of a problem.
The Kalumbila Council Chairperson, Shadrick Munjunga was happy with the expansion of electric infrastructure in Lumawana East and said it will boost the economy of the district.
