Engineer creates innovative Floating Hydro Kinetic Turbine
‘The Hydro Master’ is the first of its kind. The Hydro Kinetic Turbine has been developed to generate electricity using surface water velocity. It can generate between 5 kilowatts and 1 megawatt of electricity.
Brian Ngoma, Heavy Duty Solutions CEO said that the purpose of the turbine is to help relieve the impact of load-shedding in the mining and agricultural industries.
Speaking to ZNBC on 15 July, Mr Ngoma said “the locations that have got the suitable parameters for us to set up floating hydro kinetic power plants. As I said, these units can be manufactured on rows, on riverbeds, and then generate power into the hundreds of megawatts from there.”
Wesley Kaluba, President of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) is proud of the advance in engineering innovation and called for an increase in financing for future projects.
He said, “we are proud that our members and our associates have got innovative solutions which are pragmatic and can resolve our energy crisis in the short to medium term. We have the challenge of financing. We need to fund these projects.”
