Guy Scott Appointed To UPND Management Committee

Former Republican Vice President Guy Scott has been appointed to the United Party for National Development’s National Management Committee: the party’s highest decision-making body.

Dr Scott, who briefly served as acting president in 2014 after the death of President Michael Sata, has also been made a chief consultant to the UPND.

The appointment was announced by party president Hakainde Hichilema at a press conference on Tuesday. Other appointments included Bakute Imenda as the party’s secretary general, Stephen Chikota and Trevor Mwiinde as deputy youth chairs and Brian Ndumba as deputy elections chair.

Mr Imenda will be taking over from Stephen Katuka, who has been promoted to serve as the party’s national chairperson - a role which has been vacant since the UPND’s intra-party elections February.

Writing on social media after the press conference, Mr Hichilema observed that the team was “a combination of diversity, experience and innovation and is ready to take this country forward to new heights that will turn our nation around, to the benefit of our people”.

He urged party officials to “hit the ground running” in order to “reverse the dwindling fortunes of this great nation back to where it used to be”.
