President Hichilema: First Year Was Stabilising Economy, Now We Must Unlock Resources
President Hakainde Hichilema has explained that the first year of the New Dawn government was dedicated to stabilising the economy and now the government will move on to its next phase- unlocking more resources.
The announcement was made at the first Economic Growth Forum, which was fulfilled under the theme of Delivering Economic Growth For Zambia.
The Forum was facilitated by Professor Jonathan Leape, the Executive Director at the International Growth Centre.
The summit saw the coming together of departmental leaders, researchers and development partners to discuss solutions to economic growth.
This new phase of unlocking resources includes creating employment opportunities.
The New Dawn government also described plans that would directly impact economic growth.
The plans were outlined in the Broader Economic Reconstruction Agenda which included policies such as fighting corruption in order to protect the integrity of public resources; reforming public procurement to optimise value for money, and investing in local development through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) program.
He also called for patience with regard to the arrest of corrupt officials. He asked for people to give time for appropriate procedures and maintain the rule of law.
