FRA And Government Reach Agreement To Sell Mealie Meal At Affordable Prices
The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) and millers in Zambia have reached an agreement to sell mealie meal at affordable prices.
This was announced following a meeting between the two parties, which was called to address concerns over the rising cost of mealie meal, a staple food in Zambia.
The agreement, which was brokered by the Ministry of Agriculture, will see the FRA releasing maize to millers at a discounted price, which will in turn be reflected in the cost of mealie meal for consumers.
The move is aimed at ensuring that mealie meal remains affordable for Zambians, particularly for low-income households.
The Minister of Agriculture, Michael Katambo, praised the agreement and said it demonstrates the government's commitment to ensuring that essential food items are accessible to all Zambians.
He urged millers to adhere to the agreement and to sell mealie meal at the agreed prices, and called on consumers to report any instances of price gouging to the relevant authorities.
This agreement is a positive step towards ensuring food security in Zambia and ensuring that essential food items are accessible to all Zambians, regardless of their income.
It is also in line with the government's commitment to promoting affordability and addressing the challenges facing low-income households in accessing basic goods and services.
