HH to Open Digital Government Africa Summit
President Hakainde Hichilema will open this week's Digital Government Africa Summit, which is set to attract over 500 delegates from 33 African countries.
Jack Mwiimbu, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, said the government attaches great importance to digital transformation, which is why President Hichilema will open the summit, which is being held in Zambia for the second year running.
Mr Mwiimbu explained, at the Smart Africa Institute pre-conference press briefing, that the Digital Government Africa Summit provides an opportunity for African governments to forge links, promote cross-border payment systems and allow interactions among professionals in cyberspace.
“The summit will address key issues of tackling the implementation of national digital identity, the e-participation of citizens, authentication, capacity building and the development of the digital government infrastructure,” continued the Minister.
Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati outlined some of the government’s achievements towards digitisation and explained how Zambia will use the Digital Government Africa Summit to showcase its work in digital security.
Douglas Syakalima, Minister of Education, also attended the briefing and highlighted the role of “Smart schools, where we are using solar systems to make the digital age a reality … to help children in the most remote schools.”
