Anti-Corruption Commission Launches Anonymous Whistleblower System
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched the Online Anonymous Whistleblowing Reporting System (OAWS) to combat corruption in the public service sector.
Speaking during the launch of the OAWS, AAC Vice Chairperson Ireen Lamba said that whistleblowers can use the service to report any suspected corrupt practices and “follow up on any progress related to their report through a secret tracking number,” allowing for complete anonymity.
The initiative is part of a wider project to stamp out corruption in the country. The portal will allow the ACC to detect corruption at an early stage, thereby avoiding the loss of public resources.
The description of the system reads: “Corruption in business, politics, public administration, education, health care or any other public services or any attempts to gain advantage through bribes, or abuse one’s office, not only retards development but also causes serious material damage to the public good and undermines the foundation of our society."
The system will give whistleblowers confidence that their privacy and safety will be ensured, and send a message to all that corruption will not be tolerated in any aspect of business or public service in Zambia.
