Emergency Cash Transfers for Most Vulnerable

The government has provided emergency cash transfers to over 450,000 households, with an additional 720,000 new families expected to benefit from the programme.

Grants have been disbursed to 116 districts and 10 provincial centres across the country as a result of the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) programme.

The Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Doreen Mwamba, stated that emergency cash transfers have been distributed to 450,000 households in 39 districts.

The disbursement of funds is a response to urban price shocks and food insecurity.

"The money has been disbursed in response to the various shocks the country is facing, which have threatened food security in many vulnerable households," Mwamba stated.
