ECZ Praises Peaceful Campaigns Ahead of By-Elections
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has praised the peaceful nature of campaigns in the eight wards where by-elections are scheduled to take place on Friday 12 July. ECZ Chairperson, Mwangala Zaloumis, highlighted that the conflict management committees in these wards have reported no incidents of violence.
Addressing a political party liaison committee meeting in Chirundu, Zaloumis urged political and civic leaders to continue promoting peace throughout the electoral process.
In addition to emphasising the importance of peaceful campaigns, Zaloumis reassured that voters who registered during the 2022 Continuous Registration of Voters would be eligible to participate in the upcoming by-elections. This announcement aims to encourage voter turnout and ensure that all registered voters are aware of their eligibility.
The ECZ’s positive report reflects the effectiveness of conflict management strategies and the commitment of political parties to maintaining a peaceful environment. This development is significant for the democratic process in Zambia, as it underscores the importance of peaceful and fair elections.
As the by-elections approach, the ECZ continues to work closely with political parties and community leaders to ensure that the voting process is smooth and free from conflict. The Commission’s efforts to promote peace and inclusivity are crucial for the credibility of the electoral process and the overall stability of the nation.
