ECZ Commends Peaceful Campaigns and Transparent Coverage in Lumezi By-Elections
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has commended the people of Zambia for upholding peace and democratic principles during the recently concluded campaigns in the Lumezi Parliamentary and local government by-elections.
According to ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro, all participating political parties conducted their campaigns in an orderly and peaceful manner, reflecting the country's commitment to democratic values and mature political engagement. His remarks were made during an appearance on the ZNBC’s Update programme.
Kasaro also praised the role of the media during the by-election period, highlighting the critical importance of accurate, balanced, and transparent reporting. He noted that responsible media coverage contributed significantly to keeping the electorate informed and reducing misinformation, thereby promoting a peaceful electoral environment.
In addition to Lumezi, voting has commenced in two ward-level by-elections in Sikongo and Milenge districts. Kasaro confirmed that the electoral processes in both locations were progressing smoothly, with no major disruptions reported so far.
As the nation looks ahead to future elections, the peaceful conduct observed in Lumezi serves as a positive example of how inclusive and respectful political participation can contribute to national unity and democratic growth.
