Statement on the position of COSAFA President Dr Phillip Chiyangwa
The Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA) would like to confirm that Dr Phillip Chiyangwa remains president of the organization despite relinquishing his position with the Zimbabwe Football Association.
After numerous media enquiries, COSAFA can assure member associations that there is nothing in the organization’s constitution that states the president must also hold office with their home football association.
Dr Chiyangwa will therefore remain COSAFA president until the next elections at least, with these scheduled to take place in 2021.
A precedent was set for this with the previous incumbent, Suketu Patel, who remained COSAFA president after his tenure at the Seychelles Football Federation had ended.
