Calls For Clarity On Micho's Contract

Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is still awaiting his signed contract, according to a report published by The Mast.

The Serbian’s appointment as the national team’s coach was announced by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) on February 3. He has since seen the team to victory in a friendly against the Malawian team.

According to The Mast, the Ministry of Sports headed by Emmanuel Mulenga has been mute on Micho’s contract, with the coach yet to receive his first salary.

The Former Uganda boss was appointed on a two-year-deal.

Zambia had been looking for a full-time coach since Sven Vandenbroeck's contract was not renewed after Chipolopolo failed to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Serbian Micho was without a job since he left Egyptian side Zamalek by mutual consent in early December 2019.

It will be the 50-year-old's third national team in Africa after Rwanda and Uganda. In 2017, he led Uganda's Cranes to a first Nations Cup finals in 39 years.

Micho's time in Africa began in 2001 at Ugandan club SC Villa and since then he has had two stints at both Ethiopia's Saint George SC and South Africa's Orlando Pirates as well as Yanga in Tanzania and Sudanese club Al Hilal.

On his appointment Micho explained that he took the Chipolopolo job because of the challenge of getting the team back to the top of African football.

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) champions have missed out on qualification for the previous tournament editions. His aim will be to get them back to the pinnacle of the game on the continent.

"Zambia belongs in the Africa Cup of Nations. I had a chance to go somewhere more comfortable but I came because I believe in what we are supposed to do," he said in a live-streamed press conference in Lusaka.

"It is a challenge and not a walk in the park. This a game but we are fully aware that we have to right to let you, the supporters, down."
