Konkola Blades Chairman Dies
The Chairman of the Konkola Blades football team, Bernard Mwanza, passed away on Wednesday 15th April after a short illness.
The second division club boss was also a managing engineer at the Kinkila Copper Mines (KCM) Nchanga Open Pit Mine in Chingola.
On Thursday evening, Acting General Manger of KCM, Shapi Shachinda, said the company had “lost a gallant, dedicated employee and an avid football administrator, who was committed to the plan to ensure Konkola Blades bound back to the top league of the FAZ”.
FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala also offered his condolences to Mwanza’s family, wishing them God’s guidance during this trying time.
“We mourn with the Konkola Blades and Nchanga Rangers families in this trying period,” he told FAZ media.
Mwanza was serving his second term as Chairman of the Blades, having been re-appointed in 2019. He had previously served in the same position between 2011 and 2014.
The club was dropped from the Premier League after 2015’s season, with Mwanza working hard to see his side promoted again.
Between 2007 and 2010, Mwanza was vice chairman of Nchanga Rangers.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
