FAZ Returns To Maramba Stadium Project
While players and fans await news of when football may resume the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is keeping busy.
General Secretary Adrian Kashala has led a small delegation to Livingstone to look at the Maramba stadium upgrade project.
The stadium, which is home to the Livingstone Pirates, is expected to be part of the FIFA Infrastructure Uplift project alongside Kaole (Mansa), David Kaunda (Chipata), Kasama Stadium and Independence (Solwezi). Its inclusion in the list for consideration was determined by the Executive Committee on Saturday May 30th, with potential for the stadium to become a potential host for international games.
“With the international airport, the Victoria Falls and tourist attractions, Livingstone would easily be able to attract teams from major leagues in Europe and Africa to head to Zambia for pre-season camping,” Kashala has stated.
On-going works at the stadium include the construction of the grandstand, erection of the perimeter and wire fence and water supply regularization.
FAZ has formerly engaged the Livingstone City Council regarding the processing of title deeds in order for FIFA to disburse the funds.
FAZ yesterday also confirmed that efforts to roll out the Association’s decentralization agenda continues. Six of the ten provinces have elected provincial chairpersons for the 2020-2024 period to date. Provincial heads will sit on the national executive committee and expand the voice of the regions on footballing matters.
Provincial offices are also being opened as part of the process.
