‘I’m Ready To Play For Zambia’ - Mbesuma

Former Zambia striker Collins Mbesuma says he is ready to play for the national team again and believes he can restore Zambia to past glory if given the chance.

Speaking at the launch of his new football academy at Luanshya Recreation Club on Wednesday, Mr Mbesuma implored the FAZ to let him play for his country once more.

“To my bosses at Football House, we are capable of becoming the best again. I am ready to play for my country Zambia if given another chance. We can win the Africa Cup and also the World Cup. I am ready to contribute with all my colleagues,” he said.

Mr Mbesuma made his debut for Zambia in 2003, winning four caps by the end of the year and serving as a key member of the under-23 side that nearly qualified for the Athens Olympics.

He currently plays for the University of Pretoria in South Africa, having made appearances for several high-profile South African sides including the Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates.

Mr Mbesuma says that along with playing, he will continue to dedicate his time to developing young footballers in Zambia.

“I remain indebted to the people of Luanshya and Zambia at large. I have the Collins Mbesuma Academy which is doing very well in South Africa and I intend to replicate it in my home town and country. Roan United is still my home,” he said.

FAZ vice-president Rix Mweemba said the association is prepared to help the Mbesuma Academy and thanked Mr Mbesuma for the support he has given Zambian football.

“It’s not all legends that return to give back to their home towns like Collins has done,” Mr Mweemba said.
