Zanaco Handed Win After Forest Rangers Game Cancelled
Zanaco have been handed an easy win over Forest Rangers after their game scheduled for July 18 at Mwanawasa Sadium was cancelled by the hosts at the last minute.
Forest pulled out of the match the morning it was due to be played following a flare up of 28 cases of Covid-19 at the club.
The FAZ Disciplinary Committee has now decided to hand victory to Zanaco and award the club three points in the league.
Zanaco are now sixth in the Super Division on 42 points, trailing leaders Nkana and Forest, who are tied on 46 points after 25 matches played. Nine fixtures remain in the season.
However, the FAZ ruled against Zanaco in its dispute over the July 22 match against Nkana, which they lost 3-0 away.
Zanaco claimed they were forced to withdraw five players from their team following positive Covid-19 test results which arrived just minutes before kick-off.
FAZ spokesperson Sydney Mungala said that neither the referees nor the match commissioner’s report indicated any need for disciplinary action.
Zanaco has 14 days to appeal the decision.
