Zesco United in Six-Match Winning Streak
On Sunday Zesco United beat title rivals Zanaco 2-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, opening up a seven-point lead at the top of the FAZ Super Division table.
Zesco’s coach Mumamba Numba was visibly excited to see his team win the game, with defenders Simon Silwimba and Adrian Chama scoring both goals for Zesco. The final vital goal came in injury time.
The victory is Zesco United’s sixth consecutive win and moves the team to 43 points from 21 matches played in the division.
Previously losing against Zanaco makes the win sweeter for Zesco United.
“Of course, it is a sweet victory because we lost in the first round to Zanaco when we visited them and I think getting a victory today it is a good thing that we have shared three points each unlike them collecting all the six points,” Numba said.
Coach Numba has warned his team against complacency following the win and subsequent seven-point lead in the table.
“This is a time we need to even double our work because the league is very tight. We just have to continue talking to the team so that we don’t get relaxed and start dropping points.”
The match leaves Zanaco in second place on 36 points, with the Power Dynamos currently placing a close third on 34 points.
Zesco’s next league match is against limping Green Buffaloes away in Lusaka. The Buffaloes are currently 15th in the table.
