Virgil van Dijk Raves About Leicester City Star Liverpool Tried To Sign
Virgil van Dijk has praised Leicester City midfielder Patson Daka, who was linked with a move to Anfield last summer.
Liverpool were reportedly interested in signing Daka, but the deal fell through due to a screwup in Xherdan Shaqiri's move to Lyon.
Daka appeared for Leicester in Thursday night's 3-1 loss at Anfield, but Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said he had to be "brave" and "ready" when facing Daka.
Speaking after the game, van Dijk told BT Sport: “We want to keep a high line because we know we can win the ball up high.
“It’s the risk you have to take. Luckily, they trust us in the back but it’s sometimes not easy, you have to be brave.
“Today, I played against Patson Daka, who is crazy quick in my opinion, so you have to be ready.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp also hinted at Daka's pace, saying: "Leicester was ready for using mistakes. In the first half, we had a couple of situations where we lost the ball in really strange moments [which] was absolutely not necessary. With the speed they have, it can be really tricky."
If Liverpool had their way, Daka and van Dijk could have been on the same team.
