SpaceX Starlink Meet With Zambian Officials To Discuss Improvements To Internet Service

Yesterday, Zambian officials met with SpaceX to discuss improving internet services across the country.

The Special Assistant to the Republic of Zambia, Jito Kayumba, tweeted a message about the country’s meeting with the multinational firm.

He posted, “Our President’s engagement with the team from SpaceX and their Starlink initiative will escalate Zambia’s position in the digital economy and enable universal access to internet and other technologies. Grateful for this initiative from visionary entrepreneur Elon Musk.”

The post was retweeted by Elon Musk who outlined his excitement for the upcoming partnership.

He retweeted, “Looking forward to providing Starlink service to the people of Zambia!”

The announcement comes as the number of internet users increased by 5.4% in the last year with over 5.47 million internet users looking to access fast and reliable WIFI.

The news will also be welcomed by students throughout Zambia. Following the Covid-19 outbreak, many schools made the move to online learning, the improved internet services will ensure that many children can access classes online.

The push towards better internet is another step taken by the New Dawn Government to ensure that Zambians have equal opportunities to access services from online shopping to digital education.
