Zamtel Urges E-Learners Not To Give Up

Telecommunications provider Zamtel has urged pupils not to abandon e-learning platforms adopted during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, even as schools begin to reopen.

Zamtel’s corporate communications manager Changwe Kabwe has encouraged school administrators, parents and guardians to embrace digital learning as part of the ‘new normal’ as Zambia continues to struggle with the effects of Covid-19.

Despite schools now being open to non-examination classes, Kabwe said there was a growing interest in digital learning from pupils which should not be totally ignored even as classes resume.

Kabwe said Zamtel had seen a great deal of interest in its two online learning platforms, Smart Revision and E-Learning, during the pandemic and that these could be used to supplement traditional educational practices.

“We are ready to work with school administrators to ensure that e-learning is not left by the side as our learners return to class. We need to maintain the gains recorded during the closure period and integrate digital learning into mainstream modes of teaching and learning,” he said.

However, despite Zamtel’s confidence in its e-learning programmes, several educational authorities have expressed sincere doubts over the quality of education available in Zambia during the pandemic.

The National Action for Quality Education in Zambia (NAQEZ) deemed 2020 a ‘dead year’ for education outside of examination classes, calling for pupils who had not sat exams to be able to relearn material from the previous year in next year’s classes.

Nevertheless Zamtel insists that virtual learning will become the ‘new normal’ and the company zamtelwill continue to push schools to adopt the use of its digital services.
