UPND Youths Freed After Being Wrongly Accused

A group of nine UPND youths were recently freed after being wrongly accused of ‘Conduct likely to cause breach of peace’.

Their trail in court on Wednesday was found with no case to answer, subsequently leaving the youths free from their charges.

In a Facebook post about the release of the youths, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema said that “The nine youths were arrested on 23rd December 2020, after exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to associate and assemble.”

Mr Hichilema also mentioned that, during this period, he, too, was questioned over an offence he never committed.

The post finished by congratulating both the lawyers and youths involved in the case.

“I commend the legal team for the outstanding job and congratulate our youths for this wonderful outcome”.

This case follows a string of similar unjust incarcerations in the country, with UPND Officials being detained without charge for more than two weeks only at the start of April this year.
