Police warn and caution Sean Tembo over a Facebook post he made

Sean Tembo, president of Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP), has been issued a warning and caution statement by the Lusaka police for the offence of hate speech.

Mr Tembo, 42 of plot number 8623 in Lusaka's Ngwerere neighbourhood, is accused of posting Bemba names on his Facebook page and suggesting that they will be investigated for crimes committed during the former administration.

In a media release, police spokesman Rae Hamoonga informed Mwebantu that Mr Tembo also stated that given the rate at which the government was making arrests, Bembas would become extinct in about seven months.

Mr Hamoonga said such utterances involved hostility or segregation directed towards a particular social grouping on grounds of tribe or origin.

He said Mr Tembo was released soon after the warn and caution statement was recorded.
