Keep Tabs On Weather Forecast, RTSA Urges Motorists

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has called on motorist to follow all road safety precautions to avoid road crashes due to anticipated bad weather conditions.

In a statement, RTSA Head Public Relations Fredrick Mubanga has since advised motorists to drive with headlights on, as the anticipated heavy rainfall may lead to low visibility and water-logging on the roads during the forecasted period.

Mr Mubanga has further guided motorists to take breaks or stop if the bad weather condition worsen.

“RTSA appeals to drivers of both public and private vehicles, to adhere to safety precautions to avoid road traffic crashes during this rainy season and beyond,” he said.

Mr Mubanga has also urged motorists to drive at low speed as the stopping distance is compromised in wet weather as the roads becomes slippery, thereby tyres have less grip on the road as compared to the dry road surface.

According to the Zambia Metrological Department, some parts of the country are expected to experience strong winds and heavy rains over the next few days, a situation that may affect the safety of road user on the Zambian road network.
