Two Further Suspects Arrest Over Chalala Abductions
Police in Lusaka have arrested two further suspects in relation to the abductions in Chalala, Lusaka.
In a statement made to ZNBC a police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of two 22-year-old men. The men, Mathews Sikaonga and James Bwalya, have come under suspicion following a tip-off from a member of the public to the police.
The permanent secretary of the Gender Division of the Cabinet Office has praised the rescue and urged the police to ensure the perpetrators of the abductions face the law in its entirety.
The police have been undertaking protracted investigations into the abduction of women since April this year when a woman was abducted along Cairo Road in Lusaka.
Thirteen young women were rescued from a house in Chalala on Monday, October 3rd. Some of the victims are believed to have been held for several months.
The women were freed after Agness Kapwaya, who was being held in the house, made a daring escape over the garden wall. The first-year nursing student made the attempt after one of her abductors left the bedroom door unlocked.
Kapwaya fled to the neighbour’s house to inform them of the situation. Locals descended on the house carrying axes and freed the remaining women.
One suspect was appended on the night of the rescue.
