Zambia Receives 2.5 Million Covid Vaccines Through Covax Scheme.

 Zambia has received over 2.5 million doses of the Johnsons and Johnsons Covid-19 vaccine.

The delivery came from Germany, Italy and Croatia through the Covax Scheme.

Lackson Kasonka, Ministry of Health and Permanent Secretary of Technical Services received the donation at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport yesterday.

He outlined that 1,296,000 doses had come from Germany, 1,267,200 from Italy and 7,200 from Croatia.

Prof. Kasonka explained that Zambia had been nominated to be part of the beneficiaries of donated vaccines through the Covax programme.

He also thanked the countries who donated the vaccines and encouraged more Zambians to get their jabs through the countrywide campaign.

The number of Zambians vaccinated has been rising in recent weeks with the total now standing at over 12 million doses.

Anne Mitchell, the German Ambassador to Zambia, said that Germany would offer its continuous support and would partner with the country to ensure that they are successful in the fight against Covid-19.

Ambassador Mitchell also encouraged the take up of vaccinations among Zambians.

Additionally, Penelope Campbell, UNICEF Country Representative, said that UNICEF will also continue its support in the fight against Covid-19 in Zambia.
