Rwanda To Host The Commonwealth’s Anti-Corruption Conference

It has been announced that Kigali, Rwanda will host this year’s Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa. This year’s meeting will be convened under the theme ‘Combating Corruption for Good Governance and Sustainable Development in Africa.’

The Conference is due to start today and lasts until the 7th of May. There will be 19 African member states attending the meeting to set out regional anti-corruption measures.

The conference will bring together members of the Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Commonwealth Africa, senior government officials, relevant international organisations, civil society, policymakers, and development partners to address key goals towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 16, transfer knowledge and good practices, discuss the impacts of corruption on sustainable development in Africa, as well as discuss innovative approaches in the fight against corruption.

 

ZCCM-IH Close In Finding Financial Advisor To Reform Mopani Copper Mine

The Zambian investment firm Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH), is currently searching for a financial advisor to reform Mopani Copper Mine. (MCM).

MCM is currently 100% owned by ZCCM-IH and is looking for a private investor to increase production at the mine.

In a positive step forward, President Hakainde Hichilema, told news agency Reuters, that the government was “very close” to finding an investor.

 

Zambian Minister Of Mines Promises Not To Stop Operations At The Black Mountain

Paul Kabuswe, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, has vowed not to stop operations at the Black Mountain. The announcement came after rising concerns by shareholders over health and safety.

He outlined that the government is determined to have the mine succeed and will ensure that it does not close production.

In February, President Hakainde Hichilema handed the Black Mountain to a Consortium of cooperatives that represented all 10 districts within the Copperbelt province, the Women in mining group, and the Community hosting the black mountain.
