Zambian Doctor Leads Campaign To Ban Alcohol By Walking 140km

Brian Sampa, President of the Resident Doctors Association of Zambia, has now finished his 140km walk from Lusaka to Kabwe in an attempt to raise awareness of the harmful effects of alcohol consumption in Zambia.

Mr Sampa said that alcohol is the source of many problems in Zambia.

He told the BBC that, “most gender-based violence cases are a result of alcohol, all non-communicable diseases are linked to alcohol, even mental health.”

Further, he outlined that in order to increase productivity in Zambia there needs to be an alcohol ban.

He started his walk on Wednesday from Lusaka to the central town of Kabwe.

The 140km walk has earned him the title “Johnny Walker.”

Having walked to Kabwe, he is planning on making the return trip by car.

The campaign, titled “Walk to Sobriety Ban Alcohol Movement” has so far been met with a positive response.
