Zambia to Take Part in Elon Musk’s Reality TV Show Set in Space
Zambia has been given the historic opportunity to take part in the first-ever reality TV show set in space. Scheduled for 2025, the venture is a collaboration between SpaceX, led by CEO Elon Musk, and a group of Zambian entities, spearheaded by Green Future Enterprises.
"We are sending one Zambian to America for an opportunity to be part of the first ever reality TV show in space,” said Ahmad Hamwi, Green Future Enterprises CEO. The initiative, titled "The One," will find the first African astronaut by selecting a contestant from Zambia.
Thomas Reemer, creator and founder of Space Hero, expressed support for the project. ”The One is trying to find the first Zambian and maybe the first African astronaut into space, and of course, as Space Hero, we are happy to support them all the way,” said Reemer.
Contestants from across Zambia will compete in space-themed challenges to determine the individual who will represent the country in space.
Hamwi emphasised the significance of this project, saying, "This isn’t just a moment of national pride and innovation but one that will engrave Zambia’s name in the history books. This is a matter of African pride.”
The chosen contestant will have the historic title of being the first African astronaut in space. 300 applications have been received already, with 20% of them from women.
