64 Days Left For Voter Verification

There are 64 days left for voters to verify their details ahead of the upcoming August 2021 election, which are now just 160 days away.

Voters can do this either by dialling *214# (free on all networks) or by visiting www.eczovr.org. Voters are encouraged to verify their details as an important way of making sure they avoid troubles on election day.

While the electronic inspection of the register is underway and set to continue until 7th May, a physical inspection of the register is due to commence on March 29th, with voter register certification scheduled for May 9th, the day before presidential nominations commence.

Following the release of data relating to the new voters roll last week concerns have been raised by civil society and opposition concerning the make-up of the new register. The 2021 register is almost 2 million short of the Electoral Commission of Zambia’s (ECZ’s) target of 9 million voters. It also appears to show sizeable increases in the number of voters in provinces which voted for the PF in the 2016 elections, while those that voted for the opposition appear to have lost several thousand voters. The concerns are prompting calls for an urgent independent audit of the register.

The 2021 campaign period is set to commence following the close of presidential nominations on May 14th and will wrap up on the eve of elections.
