President Hichilema Heads to Chipata for 2024 National Youth Day Celebrations
President Hakainde Hichilema will attend the 2024 National Youth Day celebrations in Chipata, Eastern Province, on Tuesday as activities across the country are expected to celebrate Youth Day.
On Sunday the President officiated at the commemoration of International Women’s Day in Livingstone where he spoke of the importance of celebrating women’s accomplishments, raising awareness about the need to improve their wellbeing, and encouraging women to excel.
In his speech he noted how pleased he was to see opposition parties peacefully marching alongside their UPND counterparts at Women’s Day parades across the country. “That’s the way it should be in a constitutional democracy,” the President commented.
During his address the President spoke to many areas of policy and delivery that the government is pursuing in order to support girls and women in the country.
“We will continue offering free education, because it is the best investment, best equalizer and the right thing to do,” he stated, noting the importance of providing school grants through the “Keeping Girls in School Program”.
President Hichilema also spoke of the importance of proportional representation, as well as civility in politics so that more women would feel free to participate in politics without fear of abuse.
