France to Support Zambia in Climate Change Efforts

French Ambassador to Zambia, Thomas Rossignol, has reaffirmed France's commitment to assisting Zambia in its battle against climate change. During a meeting with Zambia's Minister of Green Economy and Environment, Mike Mposha, Rossignol emphasised France's readiness to provide support. This collaboration follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the French and Zambian governments in December 2023, which includes a financial commitment of over one million euros aimed at improving forestry management among other environmental initiatives.

Minister Mposha highlighted the progress made since the signing of the MoU. He announced that his ministry has approved the appointment of an international expert, recruited through the French Development Agency (AFD), who will arrive in Zambia on September 1, 2024, to work on the project. This expert will collaborate closely with the ministry to implement effective climate change strategies.

Additionally, Mposha revealed that the ministry has established a steering committee and a technical working group to oversee the project. These bodies will ensure that the initiatives are well-coordinated and effectively address the country's climate challenges.

The partnership signifies a strengthening of bilateral relations between France and Zambia and demonstrates a shared commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable environmental practices.
