President of Patriotic Front Miles Sampa expelled
The Patriotic Front (PF) has made a decisive move by expelling its president, Miles Sampa, citing his consistent disregard for party protocol and unilateral decision-making. The announcement was made by PF Secretary General Morgan Ng’ona during a press briefing in Lusaka on 3 July. Ng’ona explained that Sampa’s association with leaders of the United Kwacha Alliance and his independent actions undermined the party’s unity and integrity.
In response to Sampa’s expulsion, the PF Central Committee appointed Robert Chabinga, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, as the acting president of the party. Chabinga assured party memenbers that he will continue to serve as leader of the opposition, emphasising the need to restore order within PF. “All decisions recently made by Mr Sampa, including the appointment of Kalulushi Member of Parliament Kampamba Mulenga, are hereby declared null and void,” Chabinga announced. He stressed that the party’s priority is to ensure all actions align with the Central Committee’s directives.
Miles Sampa responded defiantly on his Facebook page, dismissing the Central Committee’s decision as a baseless reaction. “Their crazy ranting should be ignored,” he posted, criticising their inability to secure a court injunction and mocking their subsequent decisions.
This internal conflict signifies a critical moment for PF as it navigates leadership changes and seeks to maintain cohesion amid political challenges.
