Chipolopolo Secure 1-0 Victory Against Malawi
Chipolopolo yesterday defeated Malawi 1-0 in an international friendly match at National Heroes Stadium. It was the first of three international friendlies scheduled for the FIFA window that runs from October 5-14.
The national team previously encountered Malawi in a friendly in March of this year, shortly before Coronavirus hit the continent. As was the case then the result was a 1-0 victory for Chipolopolo following a goal from Napsa Stars strike Collins Sikombe. Wednesday’s winning goal came in the 14th minute.
The match was also the second win for coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
Malawi got off to a strong start. A second chance for a Chipolopolo goal came in the 19th minute but Flames goalkeeper Bright Munthali held strong. Malawi then almost drew level in the 39th minute with a shot from Precious Smbani. The outcome remained uncertain for some time to come with several near misses.
Chipolopolo are scheduled to play two more away fixtures, meeting Kenya in Nairobi on October 9 and South Africa in Rustenburg on October 11.
