Zambia Rugby Union Hopeful To Resume 2020 Season
The Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) has said it is hopeful to resume the disrupted 2020 season before the end of the year.
The season was interrupted by the global Covid-19 pandemic in March, with matches suspended for an initial period of 60 days, which has since been extended. At the time of the outbreak only the Nchanga 10s competition had taken place.
ZRU General Secretary Chileshe Bweupe has announced the union is still waiting on guidance from the World Rugby governing body to resume play.
“We as a country cannot just wake up and decide we are going to start without receiving proper guidelines from World Rugby,” he said.
Mr Bweupe said it was still possible to play some of the games scheduled for this year before the season ends in November, “especially if something was to change by July,” he added.
The league had been due to start on March 14th, with the Red Arrows defending their title as champions.
