DEC Raid FAZ, Seize Laptop

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) yesterday raided the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

According to FAZ DEC officers presented a warrant to search the premises for drugs, narcotics and related substances. However, reports in The Mast have linked the raid to allegations concerning the involvement of General Secretary Adrian Kashala in a player transfer deal during his time as director of sports in the Zambia Police.

DEC officers have been described as “descending on” the institution, from which they removed a laptop and CPU from the office of General Secretary Adrian Kashala, as well as a desktop from his personal assistant.

FAZ says its officials fully cooperated with the DEC and will continue to do so. However, it has warned its membership and stakeholders that its operations have been partially paralyzed following the raid.

In a statement released by the organization’s Communications Manager Sydney Mungala FAZ writes,”FAZ is however disturbed by the nature of the operations conducted by DEC especially that it has set the benchmark of conducting its business above board.”

“As FAZ we wish to reiterate that we operate on an open-door policy and remain available to whoever wishes to seek information within the law,” they continued.
